Who is Amaranatho and what experience does he have for this retreat?
As a Mindfulness facilitator, Amaranatho brings his accumulated skills to the retreat, having been a Buddhist Monk for 15 years. He has also been in leadership roles for most of his life, as a young adult in the computer industry, as well as a world explorer. He has developed and run residential retreats for large groups of people, as well as facilitating corporate workshops. He creates a safe space for authentic communication and is a natural trouble shooter. He is interested in the interpersonal aspect of mindfulness and how we can use our daily interaction with people to develop emotional resilience, kindness and peace. His approach is based on cutting edge science, ancient wisdom and the creative use of multimedia. You can find out more about me here
My personal experience using Mindfulness with a complex situtaion.
Shortly after leaving the monastery I converted a basement to a flat for my London base. This conversion went horrible wrong, it left us with raw sewage in the basement, mould and a battle with Thames water, and an insurance bill that will probably come to over 200,000.
When the insurance adviser first came on site we were told that because we had been persistent, calm and fair, we had probably saved ourselves three years work.
Not only did my mindfulness/trauma training come in useful it allowed me to deal with complexity and uncertainty, liaising with the all different people involved.

I was moved into temporary accommodation for eight months, the house was condemned as toxic and everything, and I mean everything needed to be cleaned or disposed of.
My mindfulness practice helped me in finding the right contractors and project manager. I did this by investing a considerable amount of money in the initial in investigation, as well as making sure they where eco-friendly. I had suffered from black mould poising and did a huge amount of research on finding the best way to heal myself and why I got I’ll in the first place. I found that this is sometimes called sick building syndrome.
After a year of working on this project nearly full time, I now have a lot of experience working with a complex situation and difficult communications. I had to deal with many contractors, insurance claims, toxic buildings as well making the necessary changes in lifestyle to recover from all of this.

Feedback from Participants
Fabulous, insightful and provocative. I found the messages delivered in safe and humorous manner. I enjoyed the interaction and seeing the different reactions. It allowed me to observe myself and others, as the as the master of our own destiny.
….he is a very skilled and has a great capacity to dealing with group discomfort & unease!
I enjoyed the session and found it to be beneficial. It was good to see other people’s reaction to the stress / tension and I found that insightful. I even chatted with my wife about the session and tested the notions of disappointment in others being there responsibility or that of the person perceiving the disappointment.
Landgate Innovation Mindfulness based Change
Landgate has its origins in one of the oldest government departments in Western Australia. It is recognised as a leader in the management and use of location information and technology.
Approximately 120 people attended the sessions. This statistic is in itself a good indicator that the topic was relevant to our staff.
Verbal feedback received shows that a number of people were moved by your workshops and excited about the prospect of addressing change in an optimistic way.
Staff gained an understanding of the nature of change through your workshops which was really important for them and the business at the time. Your workshops showed staff a different way to look at change in their lives and how they could harness mindfulness both and outside of work for positive effect.
So thank you for bringing a special brand of mindfulness to Landgate. It seems to have had a very good effect on our people.

Professional Stress for Mental health workers
Richmond Fellowship
I am confident in continuing with the exercise myself. The information on stress was very engaging and was new information for me. It is a short and thorough look at the biology of stress and trauma and it’s effect on humans. An enjoyable session followed by a hands on practice of a stress release exercise to take away. I enjoyed it all.

All my workshop have anonymous feedback
I found the retreat to be engaging, enlightening, eye-opening and very helpful. I’ve taken a lot from it. It helped highlight to me the power of the body and mind, and the important connection between the two as a unified whole. I’ve often found meditation approached from a purely psychological perspective and to have the physical elements magnified has really helped me become more mindful, and helped me to understand mindfulness on a more practical level. The day has given me a number of tools that I’ve taken into my daily life to help me understand my mind and my body better, and start on a journey that will hopefully lead to a more peaceful life.
