One of the main practice I use to support meditation is using the six healing sounds that resonant with different organs in the body. In Chinese medicine each organ relates to specific emotion and so you can support your well-being by looking after the organ. This is based on Chi Kung exercises, wikipedia defines this as:-

Qigong, qi gong, chi kung, or chi gung (simplified Chinese: 气功; traditional Chinese: 氣功; pinyin: qìgōng; Wade–Giles: chi gong; literally: “Life Energy Cultivation”) is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training…. more from

When practicing the Six Healing Sounds, keep your eyes open only while making each sound. Take a deep breath and smile to the organ between each healing sound exhalation.

An important aspect of working with Chi Kung and mindfulness is to circulate the energy and keeping the mouth gentle closed and the tongue on the roof of the mouth supports this.
